Shopify handles hosting and secure checkout. It doesn't choose your plan, keep your app stack lean, structure products so Google and marketplaces can read them, or connect orders to the rest of your business. That's the work we do.
It's probably not for you if you're pre-revenue and still testing whether the product sells. A free theme, a handful of products and Shopify's own setup guides will get you further for less money at that stage.
A good premium theme with disciplined customization is the right answer for most stores. We build custom sections where the brand or the product genuinely needs them, and keep product attributes in metafields so the same data drives the product page, filters, structured data and feeds. Themes get linted with Shopify's Theme Check before every release, so deprecated tags and dead code don't pile up.
Variants and options instead of near-duplicate products, barcodes filled in, consistent product types and vendor names, and SEO titles written for search rather than copied from a supplier spreadsheet. This is the groundwork that keeps Merchant Center clean later, and it's the same data Amazon and Faire will read if you sell there. Shopify now allows up to 2,048 variants per product, so splitting one item across several listings to get around the old limit is rarely necessary.
For every installed app: what it costs, what it does, what script it injects, and whether a native feature now does the same job. Uninstalled apps often leave code behind in the theme, so we check the theme too. When two apps compete for the same job, we favour the one that meets Shopify's Built for Shopify performance bar.
Shopify Payments and Shop Pay configuration, carrier and rate setup, tax settings, and test orders through every path — including refunds and order emails — before launch. Checkout customization is limited below Plus, so we work within checkout extensions and blocks rather than fighting the platform.
Shopify made the additional scripts box view-only on August 28, 2025, and gave non-Plus stores until August 26, 2026 to upgrade their Thank you and Order status pages. Any conversion tag pasted into that box needs to become an app pixel or custom pixel. We rebuild those tags, then compare what each ad platform reports against a week of real orders.
Shopify's native B2B catalogs, a separate wholesale channel, or Faire connected through its Shopify sales channel app, depending on how your retailers buy.
When content and speed matter more than Shopify's theme layer, we build the storefront separately and use Shopify only for cart and checkout through the Storefront API. That's the architecture behind Squeaky Clean Turf: a static Astro site on Cloudflare, with Shopify handling the part you should never build yourself.
Orders and customers into your CRM, product data into Merchant Center, wholesale through Faire, and accounting and inventory through an ERP. Odoo's native Shopify Connector syncs orders, products, inventory, fulfillments, returns and refunds, on scheduled intervals rather than in real time — a detail that matters when you sell fast-moving stock. See our ERP implementation page.
Plan and fees, apps and scripts, theme, product data, checkout settings, analytics and integrations. You get a ranked list of fixes with rough effort for each.
Theme or headless, plan tier, which apps stay, where data lives, and how Shopify talks to your other systems. Decisions are written down with the reason for each.
Theme work, catalog restructuring and data migration. For replatforms, URL mapping runs in parallel — see site migrations.
Every shipping zone, tax case, discount type and payment method, plus refunds and order emails.
Go live, then compare orders in Shopify against what analytics and each ad platform recorded for the first week, and fix any gap before scaling spend.
Ongoing management covers app hygiene, merchandising updates, feed health, integration monitoring and a monthly review.
From Shopify's pricing page in October 2026. Monthly prices drop when billed yearly.
| Plan | Billed monthly | Online card rate* | 3rd-party gateway fee | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $39/mo ($29 yearly) | 2.9% + 30¢ | 2% | No extra staff accounts; limited checkout customization |
| Grow | $105/mo ($79 yearly) | 2.7% + 30¢ | 1% | Up to 5 staff accounts |
| Advanced | $399/mo ($299 yearly) | 2.5% + 30¢ | 0.6% | Up to 15 staff; third-party calculated shipping rates |
| Plus | From $2,300/mo | 2.25% + 30¢ | 0.2% | Full checkout customization; unlimited B2B catalogs (others: up to 3); up to 25 headless storefronts |
*Standard online card rate with Shopify Payments. The gateway fee applies only if you use a third-party payment provider instead.
Run the numbers before picking on subscription price. At $50,000 a month in online card sales, the 0.2-percentage-point difference in card rates between Basic and Grow is $100 a month — more than the $66 difference in monthly subscription. And a store using a third-party gateway on Basic pays 2% of revenue on top of that gateway's own fees, which is usually the most expensive line on the bill.
Two smaller lines catch people out. Marketplace orders synced into Shopify are free up to 50 a month, then cost 1% up to $99 a month on every plan. And Grow only gets third-party calculated shipping rates as an add-on, while Advanced includes them, which matters if you quote live carrier rates at checkout.
| Measure | Number | Source and why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Largest Contentful Paint | 2.5 s or less | Google's "good" threshold at the 75th percentile of real visits (web.dev). App scripts and hero images are the usual culprits. |
| Interaction to Next Paint | 200 ms or less | Same source. Slow INP on collection pages usually traces back to filter, review or upsell apps. |
| Cumulative Layout Shift | 0.1 or less | Same source. Late-loading banners and pop-ups push the Add to cart button around. |
| Average cart abandonment | 70.22% | Baymard's average across 50 studies (Baymard). Use it as context, not a target; your own checkout funnel is the real baseline. |
| Abandonment from extra costs | 40% | In the same Baymard survey, excluding "just browsing", 40% cited shipping, tax or fees and 18% a forced account. Show shipping early and keep guest checkout on. |
Builds and migrations are fixed-scope projects quoted after the store audit, with the scope written down before work starts. Ongoing management is a flat monthly fee. Your Shopify subscription, apps and payment fees are billed by Shopify and the app developers directly, separately from our fee. Per the pricing page, nothing at Ahmeego is billed as a percentage of ad spend or sales, and there are no long contracts.
Shopify plus the systems it most often needs to talk to.
For Squeaky Clean Turf we moved every customer (with marketing opt-in status preserved), all order history and every product with images from WooCommerce into Shopify. The catalog was rebuilt with proper variants, retail and wholesale separated, and a monthly subscription product set up. USPS and UPS shipping, taxes and Shopify Payments were configured. Two live WooCommerce subscriptions due to renew were flagged to the owners to decide rather than migrated silently, and new Shopify orders now trigger a team notification workflow in the CRM.
Send your store URL (or current platform) and the one thing you most want fixed.
