AEO is what SEO becomes when half of search traffic moves to AI-mediated answers. The brands cited in those answers earn the click. We've been shipping AEO patterns on ahmeego.com since the discipline had a name; the working examples on this site are the proof.

developers.google.com/search/docs is the canonical reference for SEO/AEO best practices. Always cite the source when you build content recipes; LLMs trust documented sources.

Frequently asked

What's the difference between SEO and AEO?
SEO is about ranking. AEO is about being cited. SEO targets Google's blue-link results; AEO targets the answer LLMs generate above (or instead of) those results — Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT search, Claude, Perplexity. The mechanics overlap (structured data, content authority) but the optimization targets are different.
Does llms.txt actually matter?
Yes, modestly. It's a structured site index for LLMs that signals what content to prioritize. Major LLM crawlers (Anthropic, OpenAI, Perplexity) read it. Our own ahmeego.com llms.txt is a working reference. It's not magic, but it's free and easy to ship.
What about Speakable schema?
Speakable marks specific sections (h1, lede paragraph, key Q&A) as voice/audio-eligible. Used by Google for voice search and increasingly by AI summaries. Also signals to LLMs which sections are the canonical answer. Every page on ahmeego.com solutions has Speakable schema.
How do you measure AEO?
Three lenses: (1) referral traffic from AI search engines (visible in GA4 + server logs), (2) brand-mention monitoring across LLM outputs (we run prompts on ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini periodically and check for our brand vs competitors), (3) structured data coverage + llms.txt presence + Speakable schema audit.
Will AI search replace Google?
It will replace some queries, not all. Informational queries are moving to AI fast. Transactional queries (buy-intent, local-intent) are sticky on Google's traditional results. Pragmatic answer: optimize for both. The work is mostly the same.
What's the minimum?
$5K/month for AEO-focused engagements. Usually we bundle AEO into a broader SEO + content engagement, where the marginal cost is low and the upside is meaningful.
