Microsoft Advertising Nonprofit Grant: Current Status and What to Do Instead

If you searched for Microsoft's nonprofit ad grant, here's the straight answer. Microsoft's own Ads for Social Impact page says the pilot is paused, and in October 2025 Microsoft told existing grantees the program would end that December. No Microsoft ad grant is being issued today. This page explains what's documented, what that means for former grantees, and how to reach Bing users without one.

Paused per Microsoft's official page (checked Oct 11, 2026)
Nov 30, 2025 final grants, per Microsoft's notice to grantees
45 days to spend that final grant

TL;DR

Who this is for

What Microsoft says right now

Microsoft's official Ads for Social Impact page (nonprofits.tsi.microsoft.com) states: "Thank you for your interest in our Ads for Social Impact grant. The pilot is currently paused for grants on Microsoft's advertising network. We appreciate your patience as we continue to refine the program and product to support onboarding more nonprofits." It also says: "If your organization is eligible, we will reach out with more information once we expand Ads for Social Impact to more organizations in the future."

That page is the only current, official statement. The history behind it matters, though, because "paused" on a web page and "ended" in an email to grantees are two different things. Here is the documented sequence:

When What happened Source
September 2025 Microsoft's Ads Liaison, Navah Hopkins, said the program was on a waitlist and that eligible 501(c)(3) organizations could register interest. Search Engine Land
October 2025 Microsoft emailed grantees that Ads for Social Impact "will end effective December 2025," with final grants awarded on November 30, 2025 and 45 days to spend them. The same email told grantees to pause campaigns or be charged to the payment method on file. Search Engine Roundtable, Search Engine Land
October 11, 2026 Microsoft's program page still describes the pilot as paused and offers a sign-up form for future updates. Microsoft

Our reading: treat the grant as unavailable. Microsoft hasn't published anything saying it's coming back, and the last concrete communication to grantees was a shutdown notice. If Microsoft announces a new program, we'll update this page from Microsoft's own documentation rather than from third-party summaries.

You'll also find older articles and vendor pages quoting monthly grant amounts and matching arrangements. Those describe a program that's no longer issuing grants, so this page doesn't repeat them as if they were current.

Microsoft nonprofit eligibility, for the offers that continue

The Ads for Social Impact page points nonprofits to Microsoft's wider nonprofit program, where registered organizations "will be able to access all Microsoft nonprofit offers including Ads for Social Impact once available." Those other offers, such as Microsoft 365, Azure credits, and Dynamics 365 discounts, are active (Microsoft nonprofit offers). Microsoft's eligibility rules (Microsoft Nonprofits eligibility) say an organization must be one of the following:

The organization must also run on a not-for-profit basis with a community-benefit mission. Microsoft's ineligible list includes governmental organizations, schools, colleges and universities, public utilities, financial institutions, professional and trade associations, professional sports organizations, and political, labor, and fraternal organizations. Three rules catch people out:

What we do for nonprofits on Microsoft Advertising

For commercial (non-nonprofit) Microsoft Advertising work, see Microsoft Ads management.

What to do now, step by step

1. If you were a grantee, audit the account this week

Microsoft's shutdown notice said accounts would stay open and that campaigns left running after the grant was used up would be charged to the payment method on file. Sign in, filter campaigns by status, and pause anything enabled you didn't choose to fund. Then check two things that can switch campaigns back on: a scheduled Google import (Microsoft warns that automated imports keep "reactivating the campaigns and modifying the settings back to what they are on Google Ads (including the budget)"), and imports scheduled at the manager-account level (Microsoft Learn).

2. Register interest, but don't plan around it

The sign-up form on Microsoft's Ads for Social Impact page costs nothing and means you'll hear directly from Microsoft if anything changes. Leave it out of next year's budget until Microsoft publishes real terms.

3. Use the Google grant fully

Google Ad Grants is active and provides up to $10,000 USD a month in Search ads to eligible nonprofits. Funds don't roll over and there's no obligation to spend it all (Google Ad Grants FAQ). An underspent Google grant is a better use of staff time than any Bing workaround. Our Ad Grants management page covers the compliance rules.

4. Get the free Bing reach

Verify your site in Bing Webmaster Tools, submit your sitemap, and turn on IndexNow so new event, program, and appeal pages get picked up quickly. This replaces none of what a grant did, but it's free and it lasts.

5. Get measurement ready before any paid test

Install the UET tag with conversion goals for donations and sign-ups, and test each goal with UET Tag Helper. For EEA, UK, and Swiss visitors, Microsoft enforces consent mode and treats consent as denied by default (UET consent mode).

6. Run a small paid test only with a pass or fail line

Microsoft Advertising can import campaigns from Google Ads, so your best grant campaigns can seed a paid test on Bing. Grant-only rules like the 5% CTR minimum don't apply there, but neither does free money. Import once, switch off scheduled updates, lower budgets to test levels, and decide in advance what cost per donation or sign-up counts as success.

Mistakes to avoid

Before a nonprofit pays for Microsoft Ads

Bing's audience is smaller than Google's but not trivial, especially on computers. In September 2026 Bing had 18.8% of US desktop searches, against 9.89% across all devices (Statcounter). That can suit donors who give from a work or home computer. Whether it justifies paid spend depends on four questions:

If the honest answers are "not yet," wait. The money goes further in the Google grant, in organic search, and in your measurement setup. For context on how your digital fundraising compares with peers, the annual M+R Benchmarks study is the most useful public reference.

Pricing and engagement

The former-grantee account check and registration readiness come with any nonprofit engagement. Paid Microsoft Ads management for nonprofits is a flat monthly fee quoted after a review. Per our pricing page, nothing is billed as a percentage of spend and there are no long contracts. If a paid test doesn't make sense for you, we'll say so.

Frequently asked questions

Does Microsoft Advertising have a nonprofit ad grant right now?
No grant is being issued. As of October 11, 2026, Microsoft's official Ads for Social Impact page says the pilot is paused for grants on its advertising network, and Microsoft told grantees in October 2025 that the program would end effective December 2025. Microsoft invites nonprofits to sign up for future updates.
Did Microsoft end Ads for Social Impact?
Microsoft's email to grantees, published by Search Engine Roundtable and confirmed by Microsoft's Ads Liaison, said the program would end effective December 2025, with final grants on November 30, 2025 and 45 days to spend them. Microsoft's public page still uses the word paused, so we describe it both ways and treat the grant as unavailable.
We used to have the grant. Can Microsoft still charge us?
Yes, if campaigns are still enabled. Microsoft's notice said accounts would stay active and that spend after the grant ran out would be charged to the payment method on file. Pause or remove campaigns you don't want to fund, and check for scheduled Google imports that can switch them back on.
How much was the Microsoft Ads for Social Impact grant?
Microsoft's current program page doesn't publish an amount, and no grants are being issued, so we don't quote one. Figures you'll see online describe the program before it was wound down.
Who is eligible for Microsoft's other nonprofit offers?
Under Microsoft's eligibility rules: nonprofits or NGOs with recognized legal status (equal to 501(c)(3) in the US), qualifying public libraries and museums, and independent Critical Access Hospitals and Rural Emergency Hospitals in the US. Governmental organizations, schools and universities, trade associations, and several other types aren't eligible.
Can an agency register our nonprofit with Microsoft?
No. Microsoft says registration must be completed by an employee or strategic volunteer, and third-party providers may not register on a nonprofit's behalf.
What should a nonprofit do on Bing instead?
Use Google Ad Grants fully first, since it's active and provides up to $10,000 USD a month. On Bing, set up Bing Webmaster Tools and IndexNow for free organic visibility. Run a small paid Microsoft Ads test only if you can measure donations with UET and have a cost per donation you'd accept.
